This release includes improvements to the integration with Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai and Schoology plus various other bug fixes. LockDown Browser ® is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system, such as Canvas and Schoology. Used at over 1500 educational institutions, LockDown Browser is the top choice of educators for securing online exams in.

Respondus Monitor + LockDown Browser
Note: Respondus cannot be used for Examity exams.

Respondus Monitor + LockDown Browser is currently enabled in every UCI Canvas course space.

No cost to faculty or students
Uses the LockDown Browser to prevent students from accessing the web or other applications during the exam
Using the students' webcam and microphone, the Monitor system records their activity during their attempt
- If the Monitor AI senses suspicious behavior, it will automatically flag the students video for you to review later
- View full recordings of all student attempts at any time after the exam
No need for scheduling or registration by the instructor or students
Not subject to proctoring capacity (especially good for very large classes)

Note: Your TAs will need to be added as a 'Super TA' using GrandCentral Assistants if you want them to be able to adjust or manage Respondus settings in Canvas.

Students who have not installed LockDown Browser ahead of time will be prompted to do so when attempting to start a Canvas quiz that uses Respondus.

Note about VPNs: The Respondus LockDown Browser may not work when students are also connected to a VPN (such as the UCI VPN). Please refer to Respondus's help documentation for more information.

The Respondus Lockdown Browser is a special web browser that 'locks' a user's computer while they are taking an online quiz or exam. It is an anti-cheating application used to protect the integrity of online exams.

What does the Respondus browser do?

Assessments are displayed full-screen and cannot be minimized
Users cannot access other applications including email, messaging tools, screen-sharing, virtual machines etc.
Print, Print Screen and screen capture functions are disabled
Copying and pasting anything to or from an assessment is prevented
Right-click menu options, function keys, keyboard shortcuts and task switching are disabled
An assessment cannot be exited until the student submits it for grading
Browser menu and toolbar options are removed, except for Back, Forward, Refresh and Stop
Assessments that are set up for use with LockDown Browser cannot be accessed with other browsers
Supports screen readers (see details)
Available for Windows, Mac, iOS and other systems (see System Requirements)

How do I know if a quiz requires the Respondus browser?

Typically your instructor(s) will let you know if the Respondus browser is required for any of their quizzes
You will also see a notation after the quiz name that says, 'Requires Respondus LockDown Browser'

Can I take a Respondus quiz on my iPad? What about other types of tablets?

Instructors have the option of enabling iPad use for Lockdown quizzes. It is a setting that they have to specifically set. It is not enabled by default.
Currently the only supported tablet for higher education clients is the iPad.
1. Download and install the Lockdown Browswer from the iTunes app store
2. The first time you use the app it will ask you to select your institution.
